2008/2009 Honorees:

Continuing her program to honor the contributions and sacrifices of World War II veterans, Secretary Bysiewicz has held over 100 Public Service Awards ceremonies in Connecticut’s towns and cities.  With support from the Citizenship Fund, host towns, and community organizations, each ceremony provides World War II veterans an opportunity to share their experiences in the military and to receive recognition from family, friends, students, and local, state, and federal elected officials.

2007 Honorees:

October 30, 2007

As part of her office’s continuing effort to recognize World War II veterans, Secretary Bysiewicz honored 47 Deep River veterans during a Public Service Awards ceremony at Deep River Town Hall.  Numerous elected officials, including First Selectman Richard Smith, along with family and friends of the honorees attended the ceremony.

October 16, 2007

In recognition of their heroism, commitment, and service to our nation, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz honored 103 Portland World War II veterans during a Public Service Awards ceremony at Portland High School. Numerous elected officials, including First Selectwoman Susan Bransfield and Representative Jim O’Rourke, attended the ceremony.  The Portland awards ceremony marked the launch of public service award presentations to veterans of World War II by the Office of the Secretary of the State.

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz was joined at a Public Service Awards ceremony at Roger Ludlowe Middle School by Fairfield 1st Selectman Ken Flatto, WICC Radio Host Jim Buchanan, and Registrars of Voters from across the region to honor more than 700 Election Day volunteers.

The Secretary of the State’s Office paid tribute and offered personalized certificates for the 700 poll workers from Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District, including the towns of Bridgeport, Greenwich, Stamford, New Canaan, Norwalk, Darien, Wilton, Westport, Weston, Easton, Ridgefield, Redding, Trumbull, Monroe, and Fairfield.

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz was joined at a Public Service Awards ceremony at Central Connecticut State University Thursday March 29th by State Senator Paul Doyle, Portland 1st Selectwoman Susan Bransfield, WFSB Channel 3 News Anchor Mike Hydeck, and Registrars of Voters from across the region to honor more than 1,300 Election Day volunteers.

“You are the unsung heroes of our democracy,” Bysiewicz told the crowd. “The most basic right of citizenship is the right to vote and you make it easier for people to do that. Some of you have volunteered on Election Day for 5 years, others for more than 65.  Connecticut owes each and every one of you its thanks.”

The Secretary of the State’s Office paid tribute and offered personalized certificates for the 1,300 poll workers from Connecticut’s 1st Congressional District, including the towns of Barkhamsted, Bristol, East Granby, Glastonbury, Hartland, Portland, South Windsor, Winchester, Berlin, Colebrook, East Hartford, Granby, Manchester, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Windsor, Bloomfield, Cromwell, East Windsor, Hartford, Newington, Southington, Wethersfield, and Windsor Locks.

January 12, 2007

On January 12, 2007, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz led a Public Service Award ceremony to recognize over 950 Election Day poll workers from the 3rd Congressional District who have five or more years of experience. The recognition program took place at Quinnipiac College in Hamden.

Election Day moderators, checkers, machine tenders, machine mechanics, and others were honored at the event.

On January 7, 2007, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz honored over 900 Election Day poll workers from the 2nd Congressional District who have five or more years of experience. The event was held at the Clinton Town Hall.

Election Day moderators, checkers, machine tenders, machine mechanics, or other volunteers were recognized at the celebration.

2006 Honorees:

December 19, 2006

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz honored 970 Election Day poll workers from the 5th Congressional District with five or more years of experience. The event took place on December 19, 2006 at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

Poll workers who were recognized include those who volunteer each year to work as Election Day moderators, checkers, machine tenders, machine mechanics, or in other important roles.
